3 Reasons
Your Profits Aren't As High
As You'd Like...
Your
prospects are bombared with literally thousands of ads every single day
of their life, so to stand out you need to have a message that connects
with your prospects on a very deep, emotional level.
To top that
off, most people don't understand the psychology that goes behind
marketing. They don't understand that people are thinking different
thoughts depending on where they're coming into your marketing funnel.
And they don't
understand how to really dig deep into the emotional
resevoir of your prospects.
To
put it simply - if you're not doing everything "perfectly" from start
to finish and putting them into a perfect "buying environment"... you're losing
A LOT of
sales.
There are 3 main
problems I see even the most savvy business owners
making, and it's costing them sales every single day.
Problem
#1: You Don't Have Different Marketing Funnels For Different People
Let me give you an
example to make this easier to understand.
Prospect
A
- Finds out about your company through a magalog. They've already
ordered your product through direct mail so they're a customer. What
are you going to send them in the mail next? This person should be on a
seperate buyers list and be getting offers to not only reinforce their
buying decision, but also to sell them on complimentary products (which
should be more expensive).
Prospect
B
- Finds out about your company and although he enjoys the information
he's gotten, he decides not to buy. In other words, a "hard sell".
This is the kind of person who will start off buying only cheap items,
and should therefore be only marketed those items. There are various
reasons for being cheap buyers including their income level, the
persusasivness of the copy they receive, trust levels, and other
factors.
So if you don't
have marketing funnels for different people, you're
losing money. And this leads me to my next point.
Problem
#2: Not Matching A Perfect "Voice" To The Level Of The Sales Cycle Your
Prospect Is In
If
you're not matching the "voice" of the sales copy
to the level of
the sales cycle your prospect is in, you're losing sales.
For
Prospect A,
you need to act like a trusted advisor instead of a pitchy
salesman. By the time they're done reading the copy they should be
thinking "wow, this company is incredible. I really need to learn a
little
bit more about these people".
Magalogs do a
great job of this
for prospects who are on the fence but haven't yet stepped over to the
buying side because they give advice people can use immediately - even
without ever buying anything.
For
Prospect B,
the person who's already a customer - you have a little more
"wiggle-room" in terms of pushing a sale on them. They're already
proven to be buyers and will probably buy again, as long as the price
and the terms are right. Catalogs and direct mail letters are perfect
for this prospect.
Put in simple
terms - if your copy doesn't
perfectly match the emotions going through your prospects head at the
time of reading whatever it is that's in front of them, it won't
resonate with their emotions and you're going to lose the sale.
Problem
#3: Not
Reinforcing The Buying Behavior
After a prospect
buys from you, they absolutely need to be reassured
they've made a good purchase. Buying decisions are made on an emotional
level - NOT a rational level.
Have you ever had
the experience
of buying something and then a few minutes, hours or even days later,
regrette that you bought that item?
You're not alone.
All
prospects go through this and if you're not using copy that reinforces
the buying decision, you're practically telling those customers to
never buy from you again.
But The Biggest Problem Isn't The Marketing Funnel -
It's The Copy!
If you set up your
marketing funnel correctly, you'll have at least 3
different paths that a prospect could take. There are more, but these
following 3 at the most very basic paths a prospect should take.
#1 - Lead
Generation
#2 - Sales Letter
#3 - Upsell
Let's
say, for example, your lead generation page gets a 10% conversion rate,
your sales letter gets a 1% conversion rate, and your upsell gets a 20%
conversion rate.
That means for
every 1,000 people that enter your marketing funnel,
you're getting 100 leads, 10 sales and 2 upsells.
Now at this point
most people would only change their sales page. Ok,
so
let's say you doubled it.
Now for every
every 1,000 people that enter your marketing funnel,
you're getting 100 leads, 20 sales and 2 upsells.
But
wait - what
about the lead generation and upsell pages? They need
to be improved too!
Now if you double
the entire system, you get this:
For every 1,000
people that enter your marketing funnel, you're getting
200 leads, 40 sales and 16 upsells.
So
instead of a simple 100% increase in profits, you're actually getting DOUBLE the leads,
QUADRUPLE
the main product sales and 8x the amount
of upsells...
...while spending the exact same amount of money!
Do you see how
insanely powerful that can be?
However, without a
copywriter who knows how to understand the mindset
of where
your customer is at in the sales cycle - you'll never see these types
of improved conversions.
